Step-by-step: How Geekbot’s Team topics show you everything your team’s working on

Keeping track of a team’s workload is hard. Still, we managers must stay in the loop of what our people are working on.

After all, how else can we keep everyone both productive and focused? But if you shudder at the thought of task trackers, you probably haven’t heard of Geekbot’s Team Topics. Because with this one simple (yet powerful!) tool, you can get a detailed overview of everything your team has worked on during a given timeframe with next-to-no effort.

Team topics pick up on tasks like meetings, customer support tickets, and code debugging (you know, the kinds of items that include a lot of different people). And when you start using it, you’ll never feel out of the loop again.

I use Geekbot to manage more than 2 teams. This feature helps me see if the team is interacting with each other or not. And yet shows me the focus of the team. Well played!

Here’s what we’ll cover below:

Let’s dive right in.

Unlock Insights: Discover Your Team’s Top Priorities with Team Topics

Team Topics offers more than a simple overview of what your team is working on. It gives you an instant insight into their number-one priority.

As a manager, knowing this can be extremely valuable. The detail helps you understand what your team is focused on and how you can best support them (side note: the top-ranking topics are based on the topic’s duration, the number of members involved, and keyword relevance, where applicable).

When you hover over someone’s name, you can also see the topics that relate to them; while hovering over a topic will show you who else took part in the same task. And how does this all help a busy manager like you?

Team Topics

Well, it gives you a bird’s eye view of who’s working particularly hard on a topic — and so who’s especially invested in its success.

Note: Geekbot is free for teams with up to 10 active participants. For larger teams, it’s either $2.50 per active participant per month (if billed annually) or $3.00 per active participant per month (if billed monthly). Create a free account here

3 simple steps to use Team Topics effectively

Now you can see the value of Team Topics, but how can you start using the tool effectively? We’ve made the process as simple as possible, and this three-step guide will show you how to get the most out of Team Topics in no time at all.

Step 1: Access Team Topics

First up, head to your Geekbot dashboard and select ‘Team Topics’ from the left-hand menu in the top-left corner of your screen.

If this is your first time using Team Topics, you’ll need to give Geekbot access to your daily standup reports. This is because our AI needs a week’s worth of data to visualize the workflows in your dashboard.

If your team hasn’t completed a week’s worth of standups, you’ll need to do that first before you can view the data in the Team Topics overview.

Step 2: Filter by user, keyword, or standup

Now to get granular.

You can focus on a specific team member by selecting their name from the “People” dropdown. And you can filter by a project or task-specific keyword. To do this, just enter the word in the “Filters” dropdown, and the dashboard will display all related tasks.

Step 3: Get insights into team activities and view the team as whole

As Geekbot compiles your team’s individual reports into a single knowledge graph, it’s never been easier for you to spot the topics that require your attention.

What’s next? See your team at work like never before.

Whether you use the free or paid version of Slack or Microsoft Teams, Team Topics can help you stay on top of your team’s activities and increase productivity.

All you have to do is follow the three simple steps laid out above, and you’ll have an instant insight into your team’s progress, alongside an overview of individual contributions. And if you run into an issue, don’t hesitate to message our support team.

Now it’s time to see how Team Topics can kick your team’s performance into overdrive!
