And innovative companies are <a href=\"https:\/\/sloanreview.mit.edu\/article\/are-innovative-companies-more-profitable\/\">more profitable<\/a> in general.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But keeping your employees satisfied is a challenging task, especially in a modern and constantly changing digital environment.&nbsp;The challenge comes from both measuring employee satisfaction and keeping it at high levels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s start with learning about how to measure your employee satisfaction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Measure Employee Satisfaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#1. Go With Hard Numbers \u2014 Employee Satisfaction Index [ESI] and eNPS<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Best for<\/em><\/strong><em>:<\/em> quickly establishing employee satisfaction baseline<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two metrics commonly used for measuring employee satisfaction at a workplace: Employee Satisfaction Index (ESI) and Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both metrics rely on scale-based questions, but they measure different things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>ESI measures <\/strong>: how satisfied your employees are with their workplace, <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>eNPS measures <\/strong>: how likely employees will recommend their employers to someone.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The key difference between ESI and eNPS is that ESI includes several questions (typically three) whereas eNPS just one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to measure ESI<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Send your employees the following series of questions:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>On a scale from 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with your current workplace?<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>On a scale from 1 to 10, how well does your current workplace meet your expectations?<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>On a scale from 1 to 10, how close is your current workplace to the ideal one?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calculate ESI for every employee using<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indikit.net\/indicator\/3801-employee-satisfaction-index-esi\"> this formula:&nbsp;<\/a><br>ESI = (Questions Received Value divided by Max Question Value) x 100<br><br>Suppose you sent three \u201cOn a scale from 1 to 10\u2026\u201d questions to your employee and these were their responses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Question 1: \u201c8\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Question 2: \u201c7\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Question 3: \u201c3\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Here\u2019s how to calculate ESI :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Questions  Value = <em>All question received scores summed up<\/em> <strong>divided by<\/strong> the maximum possible score<em> of all questions<\/em><br><br>&#8211; Questions Received Value = (8 + 7 +3) = 18<br>&#8211; Max possible score of all questions  = 10 *3 =30 ( the maximum score per   answer is 10 and there were 3 answers)<br>&#8211; ESI = ( 18 \/ 30 ) * 100 = 60.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>*Your ESI for this participant is 60, which is closer to a negative score.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Note: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citeseerx.ist.psu.edu\/viewdoc\/download?doi=10.1.1.683.9595&amp;rep=rep1&amp;type=pdf#page=168\"><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/a><em>The minimum ESI value would be 0, which means your employees are extremely dissatisfied. The maximum ESI value would be 100, which means your employees are extremely satisfied with your workplace.&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/citeseerx.ist.psu.edu\/viewdoc\/download?doi=10.1.1.683.9595&amp;rep=rep1&amp;type=pdf#page=168\"><em>An ESI rating<\/em><\/a><em> of 80 percent or higher represents high employee satisfaction. Any ESI below 60 percent signifies low satisfaction among employees. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ESI score should be calculated for each employee separately. Later you can gather all the responses in one place using an Excel sheet or slack bots such as Geekbot to <a href=\"https:\/\/geekbot.com\/survey\/\">automate the whole process<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to measure eNPS<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Send your colleagues the following question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>On a scale from 0 to 10, how likely would you recommend our organization to a friend or acquaintance?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Divide all the responses into three groups (0-6 are called \u201cdetractors\u201d, 7-8 \u201cNeutral\u201d 9-10 \u201cAmbassadors)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As there\u2019s a connection between employee satisfaction and eNPS, you can see the big picture of how many employees are satisfied with their workplace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#2. Go With Your Gut Feeling \u2014 Conduct Personal 1-on-1s<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Best for:<\/em><\/strong> finding deep-underlying issues within teams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When <a href=\"https:\/\/geekbot.com\/blog\/run-effortless-one-on-one-meetings-with-our-latest-geekbot-monthly-11-feature\/\">conducted properly<\/a>, one-on-one meetings with employees provide benefits such as increased employee engagement, boosted performance, and enhanced team alignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But above anything, 1-on-1 sessions are a great way to gauge your employee satisfaction. You can combine these sessions with ESI &amp; eNPS data to track how effective your 1-on-1 sessions are over time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Note<\/strong>: you can better prepare for 1-on-1 meetings with Geekbot.
